基於FreeBSD的桌面發行版PC-BSD發布了8.1版本。相比8.0版本，主要更新如下：底層更新至FreeBSD 8.1-PreRelease，KDE更新至4.4.4版本安裝程序後端的BUG修正支持專用的磁盤GPT分區ZFS文件系統增強桌面程序BUG修正PC-BSD是基於FreeBSD的桌面操作系統，以KDE為默認桌面環境。除去支持FreeBSD原有的ports系統之外，還自創了pbi軟件包格式，該格式能夠提供精靈指引用戶輕松安裝應用程序。
